Hi, I'm Shannon Waite
and I'm here to build community.
I'm the author of numerous short stories, mostly transgressive, pending publication. My work has been featured in PANK and Hobart. My fiction has been nominated for Best of the Net and I have won five flash fiction awards. In addition to writing, I've been teaching for nearly a decade, earning teacher of the year and runner-up in Barnes & Noble with Chelsea Clinton's "Get Going!" contest, and presenting my project-based learning curriculum at local, state, and national conferences. My students became accomplished authors with their writing sold in a Detroit bookstore. I'm here to share craft techniques and create a community so you can write the things you love to read. Click here to learn about what I offer you. Read the blog and join in the discussion too! I'm located in Detroit but available to you worldwide. You can also find me on Instagram. I write
I read
a lot of everything. Fiction, non fiction, novels, short stories. I read on the treadmill at the gym, so I go through books like crazy.
I teach
I've got three degrees and am probably not done. In case you're curious:
After the death of my mom and needing a break from the classroom, I started writing and managing marketing for an architecture company that designs schools (and continued to write fiction on the side). I began another rabbit hole with researching transgressive fiction and social change which led me to developing my own writing in new ways. I love working with people to think, plan, and write, and wanted to continue sharing all sorts of creative writing techniques with others. My education, experience with writing, publications, awards, and teaching & curriculum design experience led me to creating a community for other writers looking to strengthen their writing craft and do more with their writing. This is what prompted my site and blog that I'm excited to share with you. And after all of this stuff, when I've got spare time, I go on very long walks, practice Jujutsu, and make mix CDs. |
